bookshelf madness...

I just love a great bookshelf, don't you?  I think spring is the perfect time to brush off those dusty book jackets and re-work a bookshelf space and create a whole new look.  We only have 1 bookshelf in our home, but I constantly re-work it (for 2 reasons: #1:  I suck at staging things.  #2: I like to change things up.  Often.  I may have a deep-rooted issue.)

Here are some more bookcase beauties to get your blood pump'n:

design*sponge!...

We are so excited that design*sponge chose to feature our guest room in their latest 'Before & After' insert.  We were thrilled when they contacted us :)  We love design*sponge and luckily we have been featured on there before for Maddux's room makeover.  Thanks to Maxwell for working with us and guiding us along in their new format!!  Check them out for wonderful inspiration and great how-to's :)

a someday store...

I was very fortunate to work at great retailers throughout my career (Anthropologie, UrbaneZen, and a cute children's store called Goodnight Room) and I always admired the store display windows.  Who doesn't, right?  Well now that I work at a non-retail job, I find myself noticing them even more and longing for those creative juices again.  I always hoped to have a cute brick and mortar store when I was young (and didn't know any better) but every spring when the colorful and creative window displays start popping up again, I can't help but let my mind wander off in that direction again.  Aren't they dreamy?

Happy spring hunting!

Paetyn room update...

Here are a few facts about our darling daughter, Paetyn:  She will not be told what to do.  She will not be told what she likes.  She is smart as a whip (and knows it).  And she will be not be "talked into" anything.  She is 7 years old.  She is hilarious and acts as though she is 22 years old.

Paetyn decided it was time for a room update.  After all, 7 is WAY more grown up than 6.  She loves it when I change things around in her room and always notices every little update.  We decided to pull the shelves upstairs that were in the guest room and would no longer fit in the room.  She picked out some patterned baskets from Land of Nod which we ordered and while we were perusing Pinterest she fell in love with an Anthropologie shower curtain.  I asked my mom if we could make a shower curtain into a quilt and she said "SURE!  Why not?"  So we ordered the shower curtain ( this one after searching for the fabric equaling in an epic fail ) and then we were on our way to a new room.  My parents were here this weekend so we buckled down and made it happen.

P's room is very small (the smallest in the house) and we painted it a very light pink...almost cream at certain times of the day.  It may seem weird to push her twin bed in from of the bookcase, but somehow it works.  I swear it does.  The shelf doesn't actually serve a huge purpose other than hold some toys and books, so it is nice to have it tucked behind the headboard with a perfect spot for her favorite little treasures.

Paetyn insisted that we take some pictures of the room for the blog, so here are just a few:

guest room update...

I finally got everything wrapped up in the guest room!  We are lucky with this house in a few ways because it offers a ton of storage options.  So, the guest room only needs to act as a guest room and nothing more.

I have been seeing the plank walls everywhere these days so decided I wanted to incorporate that in somehow.  The room is very small and the beginning/endings of walls are very odd to me, so I knew we couldn't do a whole plank wall.  We decided to build a plank wall headboard (it was my first experience with a compressed nail gun = I am hooked).

The room gets very little light (it only has that small window and a ugly light fixture that I did not switch out) so we added a few Ikea lamps that swing and are perfect for our overnight guests who enjoy a good book.  It also saves a ton of valuable floor space without having to have nightstands on either side of the bed.  The swiss dot gray bedding (pillowcases and duvet) are from West Elm.  I found the cute coral blanket from Target, the art from Etsy, and the wood nightstand is from West Elm too.

For the closet, I planned on finding a piece of furniture (preferably a dresser) but I couldn't find anything in the right shape/size so we decided to just add some functional shelves. We are storing some extra sheets, pillows, and tubs of the kiddo art supplies in there.  Pretty simple and easy.  We have a set of doors to add back on :)

I am excited to have the room wrapped up and can't wait to have some visitors :)
