this week in pictures...

Hello friends!  It was a great week here...beautiful weather here in Portland, wrapping up plans for P's birthday and the renewals, errands galore, work is great, and kiddos are growing like weeds.  We had a huge pile of rock delivered a few weeks ago that we put around the patio in the backyard and along the sides of yard which looks nice, and now we are onto the dirt pile delivered yesterday :)  Also Jeremiah made a horse-shoe pit in the backyard...I am not good at horseshoe throwing.  Need some alcoholic beverages and practice :).  We also got a new front door and hardware (more on that soon with the details) and also a fun new stain-glass project.  Along with preschool picnics, parent-teacher meetings for first grade, and times with awesome old and new friends.  Its going to be a great fall here!

(This last pic of the writing was P's note to the tooth fairy :)  Gotta love her.)

mississippi ave...

The kiddos and I hit Mississippi Avenue on Saturday morning...it's a trendy street here in Portland where you can find things from $.10 vintage doorknobs to $1000 taxidermy items :/  We ended up taking home a bow & arrow set for the kiddos, a few vintage posters, airplants, and a few funky red lanterns.  We love our variety of high-end and hipster here in Ptown!  Here are some of our pics:

Etsy love...Little Goodall

Are these not the cutest kiddo coats you've ever seen?  I just adore them with a capital "A."  I am on the hunt for a new fall coat for Maddux and came across these on Etsy.  The shop is "Little Goodall" and they have some really fun and quality coats available.  Make sure to check them out if you are in the market for a fun coat for your little lad/lady!

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

meet Oreo....

Meet our newest member of the family=Oreo!  The night when the kiddos were having their sleepover downstairs, I went to check on Penelope and there she was.  Not moving.  Not breathing.  No longer living.  Poor little thing.  I quickly called Jeremiah at work with a "Code Red!"  We let the kiddos know about Penelope and then moved onto some other pet options. Of course everyone ganged up on me for a new puppy, but I stood my ground and told Paetyn about "Panda-bear Hamsters" and then she turned to team-hamster very quickly.  Aren't they cute???  And low maintenance=mommy happy.  Paetyn named her Oreo and she is a cutie.  Very calm, no biting, and isn't afraid of Tonka which is hilarious.  They have staring contests...I can't tell who the winner is but we will just call it a 'draw' as to not hurt anyone's feelings! We think she is a great new addition :)

Hope you all had a great weekend!!

week in pictures...

Hello all!  It has been a crazy week around here...one thing that I was pretty pumped about is that this great vintage card-catalog made it back into our house.  I gave it to my mom a few years ago after I found it at Goodwill for $50!!  She was ready to bring it back and we welcomed it with open arms :)  I found a nice little aqua typewriter and cool round mirror last week while thrifting so they now have a nice new home.

Here are a few other tidbits from our week:

bar essentials...

As you may have been reading on L&F I am starting a little "bar" project and Design Sponge had a great essentials bar list posted.  That pink little ditty above is also a free poster download perfect for above a little bar.

These are the items I am going to start looking for:
Rocks Glass – Sometimes all you want is some nice whiskey and ice. These glasses are perfect for that and cocktails like the tried-and-true old fashioned.
Wooden Muddler – Wooden muddlers are perfect for crushing herbs and mixing together cocktail ingredients. Don’t think about making a mojito without one!
Jigger – Measuring about 1.5 fluid ounces, a jigger is a surefire way to get your alcohol quantities right when making cocktails. Typically, one end of the jigger holds a standard shot, and the other side some fraction or multiple of that.
Paring Knife – If you want to get really fancy and add twists of fruit or citrus to your drinks, this is a must-have.
Bitters – An alcohol that is infused with herbs and known for its better flavor, bitters is an essential ingredient in a number of cocktails.
Three-piece Shaker – Used for shaking cocktail ingredients together and, if used with ice, quick cooling. A three-piece shaker contains a strainer and a cap that can be used as a measuring tool.
Mixing bar spoon – With a slender, extra long handle, bar spoons are a great way to combine ingredients in tall glasses. They also look a heck of a lot classier than the typical kitchen variety.
Mixing glass – A mixing glass can be used on its own or in combination with a shaker and oftentimes features drink measurements imprinted on its side.
Highball Glass – Most often used for a alcoholic spirits and non-alcoholic mixers, a highball glass typically contains 8-12 fluid ounces.
Assorted straws – Sometimes a straw is the finishing touch that your cocktail needs! Keep a number of different sized straws in your bar for various cocktails.
Cocktail Picks – Great for keeping a grip on martini olives, mini pickles, cherries, or any other cocktail garnish.
Coupe glass – Designed for the drinking of champagne in 1663, the coupe glass can also be used for daiquiris and Prohibition-era cocktails like Manhattans and Corpse Reviver No. 2s.
Ice Bucket – When making any sort of cocktail, ice is an absolute must. Have one of these on hand to avoid constant trips to the freezer.
Strainer – If you’re mixing a lot of solid ingredients that you don’t want ending up in your final cocktail, a strainer is a good tool to have on hand.

It's almost Friday!!  Whatta week it has been...I am exhausted, I don't know about you :)
These cherries from a local farm have been our snack of choice lately.  Yum.  Have a good weekend!
